John Edwards, return my money
Sat Aug 09, 2008 at 03:09:52 PM PDT
This isn't diary-worthy, but I don't care. I'm livid. I donated money to John Edwards even before I donated money to Hillary. He was my first choice, and he was my first choice based on lies.
The Right to Self Defense
Sat Jul 26, 2008 at 01:52:52 PM PDT
For much of my life, I've been a strong advocate of gun control in America. I note that very few people in America hunt for food on a regular basis, and I don't believe that hunting for humans is a proper expression of the second amendment (and to wit, I know of almost no example of the gun murder of another human being where such murder expanded the hunter's food supply).
However, today, in purple Wisconsin, I read an article that made me question my previous gun control stance.
Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided.

There. Barack finally said it. His speech to AIPAC today was strong. Stronger than McCain's speech. I say that as a proud Democrat, a proud AIPAC supporter, and a strong supporter of the US-Israel relationship. And today Barack said what I've been waiting for him to say:
Clinton will win the General Election

A series of Quinnipiac polls just released shows exactly why Clinton should be the nominee. These polls were just released today, contain a high number of interviewees, and relatively low sample size.

Hillary's still my girl !!
Thu Mar 06, 2008 at 09:25:50 AM PDT
I thought long and hard about this. I mentally prepared myself to support Obama if he pulled out Texas or Ohio. I even came up with a list of things Obama could do to make me excited about him.
But Hillary turned it around. And so today, I upped my contribution to her.
7 Things Obama can do to make this Hillary supporter happy
Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 10:11:47 AM PDT
Mind you, I'm assuming Obama wins TX OR OH today. If he doesn't, I'll support Hillary to the very end. But assuming he does for a second, here are the 7 things he can do to unify the party and make me excited to support him. In no particular order:
From a Hillary supporter...
Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 07:27:11 PM PDT
I supported Bill in 1992 and 1996. I have supported Hillary this entire campaign both financially and volunteering. I'll state this as flatly as I can.
If Hillary doesn't win the popular vote tomorrow in BOTH Texas and Ohio, she should drop out. If she wins the popular vote in BOTH, and she wins the popular vote in Pennsylvania, she should be the nominee and I'll fight with her hand in hand to make sure that happens.
Spin or no spin, that's how it should be.
A Lawyer's View on Redistricting
Wed Jun 28, 2006 at 10:04:12 AM PDT
For disclosure purposes, I'm a lawyer that took election law with one of the two most prominent Democratic election law specialists in law school--but I don't practice election law. This diary doesn't constitute news--it is purely analysis. The Court's recent decision is tough for a layman to decipher. This diary attempts to do that.
Score 1 for the "Jewish Conspiracy" to Take Over the World
Wed Jun 21, 2006 at 10:42:29 AM PDT
Conspiracy theorists on the right and left have long pointed to a "Jewish conspriacy" to take over the world. On the right, the complaint has been that Jews are socialists and communists. On the left, the complaint has been that Jews are Likudniks and neocons. The truth is that most Jews are neither communists nor Likudniks--they're just plain old folks like you trying to do whats right. This diary has to do with doing whats right in the Darfur region of western Sudan.
I've never been so proud of the so-called Jewish conspiracy, as when Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir accused Jews of being the driving force behind a solution in Darfur http://www.jpost.com/... More below
The Daily Kos World Cup 2006
Wed Jun 07, 2006 at 08:21:30 AM PDT
With the world's largest sporting event set to start in a mere two days, I figured I'd look at the World Cup from a distinctly Kossite perspective. In this diary I will analyze the Cup based on their freedom ratings (courtesy of Freedom House)
http://www.freedomhouse.org/... Before folks start attacking Freedom House, yes it does get money from the Scaifes and Steve Forbes is on the board of directors... On the other hand, it gets a ton of money from George Soros and the Vice Chairman is Stu Eizenstat (from the Clinton Administration). It tries hard to be purely nonpartisan (after all they're simply rating other countries based on set crtieria).
With that in mind, analysis on the flipside...
Thank you Representatives Pelosi, Waxman, Slaughter, Miller, Harman, Smith, Woolsey, Conyers...
Thu Apr 27, 2006 at 08:34:42 PM PDT
Yesterday, Congress voted 397-21 for the Iran Freedom Support Act (IFSA). Well over 90% of the Democrats in Congress, including frequent Kos posters such as Representatives Pelosi, Waxman, Slaughter, Miller, Harman, Smith, Woolsey and Conyers (sorry if I missed any) voted for this excellent piece of legislation which will help show Iran that America is serious and hopefully convince Iran to stop their nuclear program. While I have no delusions that Iran will change their behavior, a bipartisan majority in Congress showed Iran that all of America means business. And that'll go further than any threat made by the administration. More on the flipside
Zagat's Guide to Israeli Elections
Wed Mar 22, 2006 at 09:23:44 AM PDT
For those of you who love Zagat, I thought it would be useful to describe the Israeli political parties in preparation for next week's election. I've listed them in rough order of how I think they'll do. So here we go...

Long Term Change--The State Legislatures
Sat Mar 18, 2006 at 09:50:25 AM PDT
One of the netroots' pet projects is fielding a candidate in every federal congressional race in the country. I'm here to tell you that while this isn't a bad strategy, it isn't how federal congressional seats are won. It isn't nearly as sexy--but we need to focus on state legislatures. I will go through the reasons why the state legislatures are important and why the netroots can make a disproportionate impact on these races. There are three reasons why state legislatures are important:
a) Redistricting on the federal level will occur in 4 years. As we've seen the last decade, redistricting can effectively prevent us from retaking the House for another decade... or it can make the job of retaking the House significantly easier. See http://www.dlcc.org/...
